Success Story
Varun Kapoor was born on 14th May 1967 at Indore in Madhya Pradesh. He was born to Indian Administrative Service officer Shri Rajinder Paul Kapoor and Smt Kusum Kapoor. He was the youngest of three children and has two elder sisters namely, Ambika and Vandana. His father and mother originally hailed from the Punjab province in the erstwhile British India. After partition in 1947 his fathers’ family from Gujranwala and his mothers’ family from Lahore relocated to India.
Mr R.P. Kapoor subsequently joined the elite IAS and was Collector and District magistrate at Indore when he was blessed with a son whom he named Varun. Young Varun studied in various schools in India and in the USA where his father was posted, these included the cities of Bhopal; Mumbai; Gwalior; Raipur and Boston.
He finally did his High School from Delhi Public School, Mathura Road branch in New Delhi. He passed out in 1985 and joined the renowned Engineering College called National Institute of Technology at Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu. He was throughout a scholarship holder at College and passed out with a Bachelor of Engineering Degree with Honours in Production Engineering in the year 1989.
Along with being an outstanding student he was also a champion sportsman and represented his school and college in Cricket; Badminton; Tennis and Swimming in various national and state level competitions. His greatest hobbies during his youth and even today remain photography; wildlife watching; travel and adventure activities. He was chairman of the Trekking Club and Rotract Club during his College days.

He presently resides at Indore along with his mother-in-law Smt Pushpa Dangwal, his wife, his two sons and his pet Labrador Coco.
He started his professional career with a brief stint at HCL Computers. He then joined the Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) at Patalganga in the Navi Mumbai area of Maharashtra. He soon became Executive Assistant to the then Chairman of RIL Shri Dhirubhai Ambani. But he was always motivated by the life and achievements of his father and thus wanted to emulate him in his lifetime too. His mother who always had a strong influence in his life and decisions also convinced him to appear in the Civil Services exam. This he did so and in his first attempt was selected in the elite Indian Police Service and was allotted the Madhya Pradesh cadre. He joined this service in the year 1991 which was the year when his beloved father retired from the top job of Chief Secretary to the Government of Madhya Pradesh.
He married Saumya in the year 1995 at Bhopal. She herself was the daughter of an IPS officer Shri S.P. Dangwal, who later rose to the rank of Director General of Police and retired in the year 2002. The couple have two sons Ishaan and Keshav. Varun Kapoor is an extremely devoted husband and caring father to his sons. He considers his wife (who is now a PhD in Psychology) as his best friend along with philosopher, guide and almost everything else.
